On the 27th I finally finished this tie I’d had in mind for far too long and I love it! It’s already available on my etsy here
On the 28th I opened the kitchen for the second time ever and first time on my own (5am starts! Ouch!) but as I was lighting the grill I noticed it looked kinda pretty. Obviously being at work I only had my phone on me, but the picture still came out pretty cool…or should I say hot 😉
On the 29th I was playing with this adorable fabric! I think I have to buy more soon!
On the 30th I dressed up all Chinese style for a photoshoot to celebrate the new year! Ok, so I didn’t actually take these photo’s but I did think of the concept, the styling, modelled and directed the shoot so I think it still counts. You can find the post I wrote here
I did actually take a photo myself on this day (sort of, it was after midnight but I was only just leaving work and hadn’t slept yet so I guess it counts). The weather was super foggy and looked awesome so I just couldn’t resist!
The 31st I had finished the adorable-fabric skirt and it really is cute! I took some bad phone photo’s as my camera’s battery had died and I’d lost the charger! Oops! Lots of photo editing later and you can find the skirt in my shop here
On the first (wow February already!) I had my last day of work for two weeks! Yey for being owed holiday! I also went and bought a new charger as I will be needing my Camera on Sunday! This charger not only charges my old styled DSLR battery (my camera is a very old model) but also AA, AAA (etc.), newer camera batteries, phones and has a car adapter! It’s going to be perfect for holidaying!
Today is Sunday and I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for the photo as I’m probably out and about taking it! I’m adventuring to the centre of London for the Chinese New Year celebrations and hoping to get a few really good shots! I’ll definitely update with a blog post when i’m back and the photo’s are fully edited so keep your eyes peeled!
What have you been celebrating this week?
As the weather was rather nice today, Ash and I decided to go for a nice little stroll in a nearby park.
I wore my Alpaca jumper my mother brought me back from Peru as it was still a little nippy and Alpaca wool is amazing at keeping in the heat!
I also wore a pretty little headscarf I bought from either Egypt or Jordan (I can’t remember which) around my neck and some cute animal print converse, although in hindsight maybe I should have worn wellies!
We took lots of pictures of the new buds that were struggling their way out of the earth and the blossoms on the trees.
Ash took this last one, I told him to stop being so good. You should follow him on Instagram as his photo’s are far superior to mine. Just search ‘Ashloids’.
Once we got home we decided it was the perfect day to have a summery lunch. I cooked us some asparagus with egg, toast, salad and a frankfurter. My egg was a double yolker which I probably got a little too excited over…
Hopefully the weather will keep getting warmer now so we can have even more pretty walks!
‘Till next time!
After months of promising a competition finally I have gotten round to it.
Up for grabs is this cute, summery tote bag, a great addition to any summer wardrobe! Perfect for adults and children alike. 🙂 Even The Penguin Theory’s Penguin wants it!
Myself and The Penguin Theory Mascot realised that he doesn’t have a name, this upset us both greatly. We racked our brains for a suitable name but just couldn’t decide on one so we want YOU to help!
So how can you help? It’s SIMPLE!
Just comment on this blog and/or this image on facebook with the name you think would be perfect for him and that’s it, done!
Of course don’t forget to follow and like so you know if you’ve won or not! 😉
Each person can enter twice (once on facebook and once on here) and I will put all the names into a hat (or most likely a bag) to be drawn in a weeks time.

I’ve always wanted a Cape with a big hood to keep me cosy during the winter weather. However, I could never find one I really liked. So I decided to set myself a challenge and make myself my ideal winter cape!
It was a bit of a struggle and isn’t fully completed yet, but I’m so proud of what i’ve achieved and just couldn’t resist taking some pictures, especially when the snow started falling!
Ashley took the pictures (and complained about getting snow in his shoe!) whilst I twirled around in my cape and posed awkwardly (I always feel super self conscious when modelling things). The snow acted as a natural light box despite the sky not being particularly bright, one of the reasons why I love snow, it’s almost impossible to get a bad photo!
I’ve always wanted something with a big floppy hood so I knew I just HAD to include one. The hood turned out to be quite a challenge, easy to make but just very awkward to attach. I’m happy I decided to add it though as I got to learn a new skill! I think I will change the shape of the hood for future garments though (this one is maybe just a little too deep, although you can’t tell in this picture).
The outer fabric is thick and sparkly, keeping the warmth in and adding a little bit of glam! I fell in love with this fabric at first sight and knew I just had to make some kind of coat out of it!
I originally wanted the lining to be a dark, flowery patterned, silk-like fabric but it turned out there wasn’t enough of it. In the end the only suitable lining fabric I had enough of was this stunning blue, silk I bought from my trip to china! I think it’s just fate that I decided to buy more of this than all the others because I absolutely LOVE the result! It’s just so pretty, and so silky smooth!
I can’t wait to finish it off completely so that I can wear it out and about, but first I have an order to complete. My minecraft tie has sold again! This will be the last tie for a while as I don’t think I have enough fabric for another. I must restock! (What a good feeling it is to sell out of a product!)
Hopefully there will be many more new projects on the horizon soon! I have so many already started and so many more still to start! I better get cracking!
The Penguin Theory
I’ve been a busy bee lately. Not only working long shifts at the day job (a 10 hour shift the other day!) but i’ve been busy taking pictures and sewing.
I decided that some of my older listings in my Etsy shop had some pretty poor images and so thought it was time to update them. So far i’ve updated these Large Orange Earrings and these Gold Triple Stranded Earrings.
I’ve also taking pictures of a new set of earrings that have been made for a while but never listed. These Venetian Glass and Pearl Earrings are now available in my shop! (And with it i’ve reached 20 items!!)
But i’ve got more! Last night I finally got round to finishing off a tie for my boyfriend. He loves playing Minecraft (and I actually really enjoy it too) so I thought he might appreciate a Minecraft styled tie. I have loads of Green material and so thought a creeper (one of the monsters in game which explode if you get too close) would be a great choice.
I think it’s come out great! One of the eyes is a little wonky, but overall I’m very proud of my work, so much so that this is now also available in my shop (made to order)! This is also more the route I want my items to go down from now on, cute, fun and quirky items.
For now though I need to eat and then go to work, so that’s enough photographing and editing for today! Hopefully I will be updating with more new items soon!
Till next time!
So I was busy editing photographs from my most recent product photo shoot and noticed that I had extremely bad bags under my eyes (i haven’t had a lot of sleep recently). Obviously looking tired isn’t the best when trying to sell a product and so i decided to try and use my mediocre photoshopping skills on them. I was rather impressed with the results and so I thought i’d make a short tutorial for anyone else who might have the same problem.
This tutorial uses Photoshop CS5 and is surprisingly simple to do.
There’s actually a tool especially for doing things like this, you can find it at the top of the second ‘section’ of tools on the left. Right click and you should be able to see ‘Healing Brush Tool’ in the drop down.
As you can see, i’ve already zoomed in close on my face so that I can see what i’m doing.
Next you have to select the area of face that you want to use to fix the bags. I always choose just under the area you’ll be fixing as it helps it blend a little better together. To select the area you just have to hold down ‘Alt’ (I’m on a mac but I think it’s the same on windows too, please let me know if it isn’t). A little target should appear so , whilst still holding ‘Alt’, click on the area you’re wanting to use.
I chose to click on the very most left hand side of my face as I knew I’d be drawing over the eye bag from left to right.
You can take your finger off the ‘Alt’ button now and just draw normally, following the bag under your eye.
Ignore the fact that it looks incredibly obvious at this point, that’s normal, when you finish and let go of the mouse button it should all blend in nicely with photoshops magical powers.
Tada! You’re no longer looking in need of sleep!
Now you just have to do the same on the other side.
Of course this can sometimes take a few tries to get it right, but it seems to work perfectly almost every time for me.
I also finished off my picture by adjusting the brightness and contrast, fiddling with my eye colour a bit (just a vanity thing there) and desaturating the background.
I hope at least someone out there will find this useful, this was rather fun to make so I might even do a few more tutorials in the future! 🙂
‘Till next time!
I’ve been a busy little bee taking lots of pictures of my stock. I feel like i’ve got better at editing them as well. I still have lots more to edit and lots more to still take pictures of, but it’s getting done and i’m able to upload more and more items to my etsy. Hopefully i’ll be able to reach the magic number of 100 listings sometime soon, but i’m a long way off for now. Until then here’s some from my newest photoshoot, a stripy tie for the men! (Available here)
I think my photographing and editing skills have developed a lot in this last week, and i still haven’t even read the photography book i got for my birthday. I’m quite tempted to do a little tutorial on the tricks I use (whether or not they’re the best way to do things). Would any one be interested in one?
For now though, I have to get ready for work. Not sure if I should really be going though as i’ve done something to my back and seem to have a hard time standing up. I should really go to the doctors but i can’t really afford to be taking time off …I guess i’ll just have to see what it’s like after tonight.
I have more photographs ready to be edited for tomorrow, and even more items to take pictures of! I also still have a lot of sewing projects on the go. It’s all go at The Penguin Theory!
‘Till next time! 🙂
It’s been a while since I uploaded anything to Etsy. I’ve just been too tired from working a lot. Not helped by working until close this week (I usually get home around 2) and we’ve had roadworks outside our window waking me up every morning. I was tempted to complain about it, as it’s really not fair if people have to work nights, but then again, they’re just doing their job and it’s probably something that really needs doing.
But any way, I’ve decided to go through all my old stock and retake the pictures. There’s a lot that I haven’t even put onto Etsy and so I think it’s time I finally uploaded them. So far i’ve only listed a couple of Aprons, but there are a lot more to come!
I’m also still working on some other projects which should hopefully be completed soon. So many projects in the pipeline but it seems like so little time to do them!
Well, I better get cracking I suppose. 🙂
‘Till next time!
Yesterday it was RIDICULOUSLY hot. Unfortunately i spent the whole day inside, reading through millions and millions of journals. It got to the point where i thought my brain had actually melted just a little bit. But at least i think it will help towards my Dissertation, i definitely found quite
a few useful quotes. It guess it was worth the nearly £200 i spent on travel and hotels…But i’ll wait till i get my grade back to decide on that.
Then i set off for what should have been a 4hr train journey. Unfortunately one of my trains got delayed as it was so busy it was hard to fit everyone on, this in turn made me miss my connection and then i had to wait an hour for the next one. 3 trains and 5 1/2 hours later i made it home at around 10:30pm. Shattered.
Yet somehow i got chatting and didn’t end up sleeping till about 2am, as you do, good job i allowed myself my first lie in in weeks today! Lush!
Also, if you remember from a post a few days ago i did a photoshoot, i’ve got the images back (which are dotted around this post). They went straight on facebook and lots of people i haven’t talked to in ages have started commenting on them and talking to me. That could have something to do with the underwear shots…
Surprisingly though, my mum didn’t mind the nakedness. I think she actually liked a few of the shots, it’s my sister who had a slight problem really. haha!
I should probably go pack now though as we’re off to Wales later. I really am getting around a lot lately, country-wise at least.
Till next time! Stay Happy!
Ok, so i didn’t update the day after as i said i would. I fail as usual. But at least this time i have an excuse!
This weekend i went to London for a photoshoot. It was fuuunnn and i’ve just got to look at the images! They look amazing! I can’t wait to get the CD of them so i can show people. I even did a few underwear shots, something I never thought i’d have the confidence to do, but i’ve kind of got into the ‘fuck it’ mindset in this last year. Not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing…career wise i’d say good, otherwise i reckon it could back fire on me. But we shall see.
Whilst in London i decided to go visit a guy called Ashley. We spent the day just generally wondering around. We saw some street performers on the south bank which was pretty cool, especially the breakdancers! We went to Trafalgar square and there was a random concert celebrating Holland, was random but good. Then we wandered to convent garden and to green park and then to Hamleys. It was random but fun 🙂
After hamleys it was time to tube it to the rollerdisco! It was ridiculously fun, and i only fell over 3 times… My legs we’re killing me by the end, definitely some good exercise though! There were a few people there who seemed like they went every week. They were insanely good, i wish i could dance on skates like that. Instead i took to either skating, or dancing whilst sat down.
The disco didn’t finish until about 2am and the tubes we’re closed so i ended up having to stay the night in London. The next day Ashley’s friend visited and we pretty much spent the day just watching films and doing nothing. Then we all forgot it was sunday and again i missed the last train and had to stay another night. As i hadn’t factored staying over into the equation, i didn’t really have anything with me. Needless to say, i was feeling pretty skanky today. But at least i’d borrowed a towel and had a shower, so i was kind of clean.
Now i really should pack, ready to go to canterbury tomorrow so i can sit in a library for 2 days watching videos of Grotowski’s work and reading through texts and reviews. Exciting i know. I might give myself a little bit of time to wander around and look at pretty things.
