It seems like recently I have caught the drawing bug, probably largely helped by a sudden avalanche of sales for my Penguin Valentines Cards! It really has been rather exciting over here at Penguin HQ!
I’ve found that I really do love drawing cute little animals and it seems like i’m getting better and better every time i open up photoshop! I’ve even started recording my drawing process as i think it does help to watch back when i’m not concentrating on drawing, plus i think it could be quite a nice little addition to my youtube cannel that’s been lying dormant for so long! You can watch all my time-lapses here!
I drew these seahorses as another option for valentines day, but ended up not really liking them enough to put up in my shop. I do think they’re cute but, gosh, are seahorses hard to draw! Maybe i’ll revisit them once i’ve improved a bit more.
I started to relax into my drawing a bit more and drew this adorable Hippo! This has to be one of my favourite drawings to date! He’s wearing a cute little party hat and singing ‘Hippo Birthday’, because Hippo’s are obviously amazing singers! 😉 I think my shading improved so much on this picture and I just love the hippos character!
You can buy my Hippo Birthday card here!
Ashley then gave me the idea of drawing a shiny-object-loving magpie stealing a ring for a wedding or engagement card and I thought it was a great idea! I wanted to add a little simple background to this one and love how it turned out although i think i will tweak my shading tomorrow as it isn’t as good as on my Hippo.
You can find my Magpie Thief card here!
What do you think I should draw next?
I also have some other exciting plans for my youtube so do keep an eye out for more learning, projects and other fun things!
But for now, it’s time to sew!
Recently, to my surprise, my penguin valentines cards have been flying out of the shop! So much so that I’m having to get a lot more printed up and have decided to release a new design!
Pick up this new cute courting emperor penguin couple valentines card here!
I have many different designs to choose from now so you can choose the perfect one for your partner.
Does your other half make you sing and dance with joy then my ‘Happy Feet’ card is perfect for you!
If your partner is the perfect catch, maybe consider my top seller, the ‘plenty of fish’ card.
I hope you all have a great valentines with lots of pampering!
Myself and Ashley have been together 3 years today!….or tomorrow. You see we don’t really know when we got together as I agreed somewhere around midnight so we tend to celebrate over two days! However we’re not doing much today as we have very little money and so just spent a long relaxing morning and afternoon together and both have work tomorrow. I have bought him vouchers for a graffiti art lesson though, although we can’t book it for a few weeks as we’re too busy!
Still, it’s been really nice to spend some time snuggled up together thinking ‘how on earth have we put up with each other for 3 years!’. Of course we’ve had our ups and downs like every couple, but since we’ve both finally got new, well paid and enjoyable jobs things have been really good and we’re as loved up as ever!
To celebrate our anniversary i’ve decided to give away one of my Penguin cards to one lucky winner, so they can share their love with someone special.
I am actually giving away an extra large card, a size not available in my shop, featuring the adorable picasso and lots of fish (above)! This was my most popular card design over valentines and so is sure to be the perfect way to make someone feel a little special.
To enter to go over to my facebook and then like and share my competition image here.
You have the rest of today and tomorrow (the length of our anniversary) to enter!
As the weather was rather nice today, Ash and I decided to go for a nice little stroll in a nearby park.
I wore my Alpaca jumper my mother brought me back from Peru as it was still a little nippy and Alpaca wool is amazing at keeping in the heat!
I also wore a pretty little headscarf I bought from either Egypt or Jordan (I can’t remember which) around my neck and some cute animal print converse, although in hindsight maybe I should have worn wellies!
We took lots of pictures of the new buds that were struggling their way out of the earth and the blossoms on the trees.
Ash took this last one, I told him to stop being so good. You should follow him on Instagram as his photo’s are far superior to mine. Just search ‘Ashloids’.
Once we got home we decided it was the perfect day to have a summery lunch. I cooked us some asparagus with egg, toast, salad and a frankfurter. My egg was a double yolker which I probably got a little too excited over…
Hopefully the weather will keep getting warmer now so we can have even more pretty walks!
‘Till next time!
After months of promising a competition finally I have gotten round to it.
Up for grabs is this cute, summery tote bag, a great addition to any summer wardrobe! Perfect for adults and children alike. 🙂 Even The Penguin Theory’s Penguin wants it!
Myself and The Penguin Theory Mascot realised that he doesn’t have a name, this upset us both greatly. We racked our brains for a suitable name but just couldn’t decide on one so we want YOU to help!
So how can you help? It’s SIMPLE!
Just comment on this blog and/or this image on facebook with the name you think would be perfect for him and that’s it, done!
Of course don’t forget to follow and like so you know if you’ve won or not! 😉
Each person can enter twice (once on facebook and once on here) and I will put all the names into a hat (or most likely a bag) to be drawn in a weeks time.
The Penguin Theory
Yesterday I went straight from work to the south bank to meet up with my aunt, her partner and my cousin.
There was an Alternative Families festival thing on at the South bank Centre and, with my cousin being adopted and living with 2 mums, they thought they would take a trip down to see what was going on!
There was lots of cool things for kids to do all day, with alternative fairy tails (such as King and King and Tango Makes Three) talks about alternative families and much more.
We even found a jolly farmer with some baby animals we were allowed to feed and hold! I wont lie, I almost stole one of the lambs because they were so darn cute!
Tiggs (as we call her) managed to be picked for an interview and they used her footage, probably because of the most adorable quote ever:
‘Anyone can be a family, as long as they love each other’
We are all so proud of her, she’s come a long long way since she was first welcomed into our family when she was quiet and extremely shy. Now she is such a bright, bubbly, loud and completely lovely little girl! I definitely think she spoke some very wise words there and her mums should be very proud. In fact we all should be, and most definitely are, proud.
She was also asked if she would like to appear on a future TV show called ‘My Life’ which she was very excited about. Again it is a show following Alternative families and sounds very exciting.
Tiggy kept saying ‘This is the best day of my life!’
I think she’s a star in the making!
The news video can be found below with her adorable quote, another cute boy and a book about Penguins! 😀
‘Till next time!
Remember I said it was my sister who told me about the Idea of Alphabet dating as one of her friends was doing it?
Well this friend has now been included in a blog! So far her dates seem far more adventurous than mine and Ashley’s, but we have plenty more to come!
If you want to read what they’ve done so far then you can find it here on Florence Finds
It’s a really good read!
‘Till next time
Yes, as the title suggests, I pretty much spent valentines alone, despite actually having a boyfriend. But we’ll get into that later…
I had an exciting day on Sunday as I got up early to go to london to try and become an extra in the film adaption of Les Miserables. A ridiculous number of people turned up (like 7000?) and there were only 300 roles that needed filling (ha! only!). A lot of people didn’t even get through the doors, luckily I somehow managed to.
Once i was in we were asked to fill in a form, then got measurements taken and a photograph. Apparently I should find out before the end of the month so fingers crossed!
After coming home from the auditions the boyfriend and I decided to go on a little date. Since he saw the adverts for Star Wars in 3D he’s been wanting to go and see it so that seemed like the obvious choice.
We’d both already seen the movie so knew the story line and what to expect, but the 3D definitely enhanced the experience. The pod racing, the flight in space, the fight scenes. Everything just seemed so much bigger and more exciting, although I guess the big screen could have contributed to that as well. In fact i don’t even think he wanted to see it for the 3D, he just wanted to see Star Wars in the cinema.
Monday passed with no big events and was rather boring, but as we all know, today (or yesterday as it is past midnight, whoops!) is valentines.
I’ve spent pretty much the whole of valentines on my own. Woke up at 8 to the boyfriends alarm, played Skyrim until 12 (It was a lazy day ok) then wandered into town on the search for fabric to make his valentines present. However, I couldn’t really find any nice fabrics and instead bought a t-shirt with a lion on it (something i’ve always wanted, it was love at first sight).
Eventually, with the help of my amazing smart phone (seriously how did I ever cope without?), I found that there was a big fabric store about a 5 minute drive away!
I only went in for one bit of fabric but ended up coming back with 3…Something that seems to happen everytime I buy fabric. I seriously need someone to come with me to fabric stores and stop me spending too much.
I bought some polkadot to go with another polkadot for an apron I have in mind, so I guess that’s acceptable.
I also got this amazing, wipeable material, almost like linoleum. It has big crayons on it and i think will make the perfect craft apron for a child. I’m so excited to use it, i just hope that it doesn’t break my needle. So i’ve decided I can get away with that purchase too.
The last fabric was a stripey brown, grey, white and black that was actually what i’d gone there for, so obviously that was acceptable too. This was to make a nice tie for my boyfriend as he’s been asking me for one for ages and what a perfect time to give him one! (plus I have loads left to make more ties as the material turned out really nice)
I’m just waiting for him to come back from work now to give it to him, i think he thinks i haven’t got him anything so it will be a nice surprise.
I would love to hear about what kind of things anyone else made (or bought) for their valentines.
Till next time, Stay happy!
Today i was woken up at 8am (after going to bed at 1am? 2am? Who knows) by the mother as she was going away for the weekend and it would be the last chance to see her before I go back to Uni. I figured whilst i was already awake i may as well get up and finish off the packing i had ignored…
And when i say ‘finish off’ i mean ‘start’.
I’m far too good at procrastinating. In fact i’m procrastinating right now. I’m meant to be unpacking. Something i hate nearly as much as packing.
However, half way through changing i realised that i had packed all my T-Shirts at the bottom of my bag. Luckily there was some clean washing in the spare room that hadn’t been packed yet so i went to rummage through that to grab my things. Then i heard a noise…I was confused at first, i knew i recognised it but just couldn’t figure out where from. Then it dawned on me. It was the terrifying sound of a window cleaners ladder! And i was stood in only my underwear! I quickly dashed from the room back to my bedroom and got changed into a random tshirt and jeans. Safe.
Surprisingly this isn’t the first time this has happened. Window cleaners always seem to pounce on me whilst i’m naked/scantily clad/in the shower. Thus i have gained a small dislike for window cleaners. I swear they have some kind of ‘naked claire sensor’ so they know when to come over…
Later i went to help the grandparents put all their christmas stuff back in their loft. It was relatively uneventful but just before going i told them both i loved them, something i’ve realised i don’t do often enough. And not just with them, with other family members too. I shout at my mum far too much (what? She annoys me sometimes!) and then feel pretty guilty. I think i’m going to add this to my list of New Years Resolutions. I don’t want my family thinking I don’t love them! And it actually felt pretty good to say it… strangely awkward to actually feel it coming out of my mouth (I’m not the soppy kind ok!) but the smile on my grandma’s face said it all! 🙂
Then it was back home to finish packing, load up the car and set off for Bedford!
Literally as soon as i got on the motorway my car started spluttering and the needle started dropping. This has happened before, the car really doesn’t like the rain, and it was raining quite a lot. Plus i was over taking a lorry and they throw up ridiculous amounts of spray. I had pull over onto the hard shoulder for a bit for my poor little micra to recover. Soon i was off again, but i had the same problem over taking every lorry (although i didn’t pull over again). I stopped at the first place I could to fix the problem. I’m no mechanic, but we do have some WD40 and that seems to do the trick…temporarily.
The rest of the journey was uneventful. I sang, i drove, it got REALLY rainy, i sang, it got really foggy, i made it my mission to stalk a particular car, i sang even more, i lost the car, i got to Bedford.
2 of my housemates are back. Had a nice chat. The Ex comes back tomorrow (yes i live with my ex…). I think that will be interesting…
Anyways, i guess i should get back to unpacking.
