Although I was mainly at Vandem for the gnarly skating shots and to support Ash and our skating friends, the fashion loving side of myself also kept my eye on the clothing which was coming down the hill. There were a lot of bright, fun shorts, vest tops, and colour matching; from the normal skater to the quirky and distinctive.
There were a lot of full leathers, obviously you want to keep yourself as safe as possible when travelling 40+mph on board, and quite often these were not only colour co-ordinated with their helmets but also their boards!
There were a lot of brightly coloured shorts.
And of course no event is complete without a bit of fancy dress!
There was even this beauty spotted partying the night away:
But my favourite fashion find from the weekend was around the neck of a skater named Ryan Swanton. Not only did he look pretty cool in his sporty shorts and vest top, but he was wearing a nice black beaded necklace to which he had attached an old rusty bearing.
Ryan has been skating for around 2-3 years but this was his first time at Vandem. I asked how he found his Vandem experience and he told me that ‘it took a while to ease in, but all today i’ve been getting faster’. He agreed with me that it was extremely well run and he would definitely be coming again next year!
I actually have some old ruined bearings in my drawer and so think I might make some jewellery out of them for myself.
Thanks for the inspiration Ryan!
‘Till next time!
I made a treasury today for Craft Britannia’s Shop of the Week : Louise Mead Art
I just love her abstract ‘Rain’ painting, especially as it features my favourite colours and just really looks stunning!
You can find the treasury here
Today I will be going to the UK Etsy meet up in London and decided I needed to make some special jewellery to wear for the occasion. I haven’t kept many of my handmade items for myself as I feel guilty when looking at the mounds of jewellery i already own.
But for christmas I was given some beads from my mum’s boyfriend that I was under strict instructions to use for myself, as I really should start wearing my own things. I mean if i’m not going to wear it why would anyone else?
Plus I feel this kind event really does need me to advertise my wares so i really needed to knuckle down and make some items.
The only problem was, i’ve been lacking inspiration for a long time and had no idea what to make. So, i decided to rummage through my jewellery box and came across an old necklace that i hadn’t worn for ages. This necklace sparked some ideas in my mind and I suddenly went on a productive streak managing to make 3 necklaces and 3 pairs of earrings in the space of a few hours!
Pink and Pearl Heart Necklace
Cute pink and cheerful, bit more girly than i’m used to, but I like it any way. It has a string of pearls broken up by pink and gold coloured beads and a large gold heart pendant.
Flower Dangle Earrings
Again cute and girly. These special flower beads seemed to suit the pearls beautifully to create a cute pair of earrings perfect for spring.
This necklace has actually been made to sell. A string of pearls separated by a cute fish bead. A fun and quirky necklace for those who like the unusual.
Blue Chain Earrings
An eye catching pair of earrings made to to make a statement.
I also made a pair of earrings for my sister’s birthday as the present i really made her was a big fail. I made them to match a dress she already owns. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of them for you. Maybe another time.
In other news, our flat now has pets!
They are completely self reliant in their own little ecosystem, they require no feeding, cleaning or any other pet related chores. The perfect animal for forgetful me!
I’ve had a busy few weeks including going to V Fest and Amsterdam.
Needless to say lots of monies have been spent, now I should probably get round to making some.
V fest was amazing. Saw some amazing artists and just generally had an awesome time! Would totally go again!
My bag served me well, but alas after a weekend of carrying my (and my friends) life around, it was definitely beaten. I think this was mainly due to the fact i can’t seem to find any strengthening stuff to iron on the inside before sewing. That would have definitely made a world of difference. But my lesson has been learnt before making any more big bags.
Literally a few days later i was jetting off to Amsterdam. Obviously fun and messy times were had there. We rode bikes, drove a boat, got extremely lost, went to the zoo, went to the vodka museum, looked at hookers. Was hilariously awesome. Good good times.
Since i came back I’ve been busy spamming my jewellery every where so as to try and sell some. This includes:
Making a facebook page
Updating my Tumblr
And being a lot more active on the craft forums i was a member of.
I’ve also been making lots of little bags similar to this one:
Now if you buy some thing from me now it will come in something similar to this 🙂
Speaking of selling. I’ve now moved to folksy, being british and all that. Just thought it would be easier as the conversions kept messing things up and was getting pretty annoying.
I have 3 items on there already. More will follow soon.
Oh also, today I went to the first of the acting work shops. We we’re meant to have got an email explaining that we needed a short exert to perform, but alas the email doesn’t seem to have made it to my inbox, and I wasn’t the only one. Luckily i just used inspiration from the last piece I performed at Uni, I couldn’t remember exactly what I said in it, so it was nothing alike, just a similar character. I think it went ok.
Till next time!
