Jan 13th saw a 12 hour shift in the kitchen. Ouch. But hot chocolate with marshmallows made up for it 🙂
Jan 14th saw another 12 hour kitchen shift (double ouch!) plus I wasn’t very well, but my sweet tooth saved the day again as I spoilt myself with yoghurt. I always view yoghurts as a special treat as I very rarely buy them to try and save a bit of money, I seriously love them though, possibly even more than chocolate!!
Jan 15th I still wasn’t very well and took the day off work (I was meant to be on another terribly long shift). By the evening I was starting to feel better and so treated myself to Chinese with the housemates whilst watching films.
I spent most of the 16th playing League of Legends with my housemates. It’s super fun, although quite complicated and stressful at times, but i think i’m starting to pick it up now and am not completely rubbish.
on the 17th I took all the ingredients for a chicken wrap to work with me. Unfortunately I completely failed in making the wrap somehow, but my kitchen friend came to the rescue. Yum!
On the 18th I decided it was a good day to show off my window. I love this window and it’s view. It makes me smile every morning!
Last night I took this picture of my Fish lights. It was after midnight and so it counts as the 19th 😛 My sister got these as a present years ago as I’ve always been obsessed with the sea, they fitted in with my ‘under the sea’ themed room and now I have them strung up on the partition in the middle of my bedroom. I think they’re awesome.
Next week is a lot nicer shift wise and I plan to do a lot of sewing and adventuring!
Last weekend Ash and I went on a trip to cornwall to try a new sport. Cornwall is well known for it’s surf and this has been something we’ve both been wanting to try for a while so we figured why not.
A couple of friends joined us too, they also happen to be the guys we’re looking for a house with once our lease is up in a couple of months and so we decided it would be our first official house holiday (and also a chance to see if we could really live together).
Our campsite was nice, what more do you want other than a field, toilets and a shower really?
As it had been a 4 hour drive it was already afternoon and so once the tent had been set up and food cooked we just chilled out together for the rest of the evening.
The next day we went to Newquay. It was a nice relaxing day playing in the surf, building sand castles and sliding around on our skim board.
Skim boards are designed for very shallow water and literally ‘skim’ the surface. They’re pretty fun and fast but don’t expect to stay on your feet for long.
The next day was far more active as we decided to brave the surf. We had a two hour lesson with a surf school on the beach, there were cheaper ones which did whole day classes but they had all been sold out and actually in hindsight we don’t know what they could have even done with us for a whole day.
Ash was the first of us to manage to catch a wave and stand but I wasn’t far behind.
We found the hardest part was the catching of the wave, the timing and speed were difficult to get right and we were often left behind whilst the wave raced to shore.
We also found that it was extremely tiring, our arms began to ache in the first hour and the constant battling against waves to get out to sea took a lot out of you. But the moment you caught a wave it really felt like you were flying and made all the effort worth it.
We ended up renting our surfboards and wetsuits out for the rest of the day (For only £10! Bargain!) and surfed until we could surf no more! They also had a photographer who took pictures of us surfing and CDs we’re available to buy afterwards for £10, that worked out as £2.50 each as we bought one between the four of us, bargain!
We all slept well that night.
The next day we drove all the way to Wales as my mum was visiting her boyfriend and I hadn’t seen either of them in such a long time.
As soon as Ash saw the first hill he fell in love.
We met with my mum and Andy before going on a nice (steep) walk to see the Welsh countryside and explored and old castle before sitting in a pub for a well deserved pint. Wales really is beautiful country and I’d recommend anyone to go visit, the views are just spectacular.
We finished off the holiday by visiting the Brecon Beacons. We didn’t go far, just found a nice, quiet road for Ash to finally skate on with some amazing views.
All too soon it was time to come back to London. We had a really awesome trip away and we think we want to make Cornwall and Wales a regular thing (although maybe not at the same time)
I’ve been bad and haven’t quite gotten round to much sewing, but I do have another competition for you all!
Again it’s for a Penguin Theory Tote bag with your choice of lining (to be discussed with the lucky winner)
It’s easy to enter: Just tell me what your favourite penguin is! Simples!
I have a handy little thing from rafflecopter this time as well. You can enter here on my facebook page
Remember you can also buy this bag on my Etsy and 20% of every sale goes to the RSPB to help save rockhopper penguins!
Sorry for the brief absence, between long hours at work and being sociable I seem to have neglected my blog. I promise I made the most of my free time whilst I wasn’t updating though.
Last weekend I met my sister on the southbank and went to a chocolate festival! There were so many stalls selling all kinds of chocolates! Gifts, snacks, quirky little things, big delicious things, solid things, liquid things. You name it, they had it (in chocolate at least).
I bought an amazing Lion shaped chocolate I just don’t dare eat (i will have to take a photo for you all to see!) and we bought a bag of flavoured chocolate lollypops.
Emma and I then decided to retreat to the warmth of a pub and chat over a bottle of very tasty wine. Ash and my sisters boyfriend then met up with us for some lunch. Ash and Sam were men and had steaks, I had some delicious scampi. It was really nice, and the first time the four of us have done something together. The boys talked gaming and we all had a nice chat about TV shows we watched, soon though we had to leave. My sister had a party to go to and we’d invited some friends to a RollerDisco, the very same place Ash and I went on our first meeting.
The Rollerdisco was brilliant as usual although we left earlier than I wanted, probably for the best as I had work the next morning. Again we didn’t dress up and again I wished I had! There were some truly awesome outfits, lots of flares, bright colours, super heros. My favourites by far were the group dressed as retro games. My two absolute favourites being Twister and the Rubix Cube.
This girl had made a very pretty dress out of twister fabric. It was simple but it didn’t need anything else. She also wore a Twister board on her head, very creative although it looked a bit like she had just graduated!
This outfit was just so quirky and brilliant I couldn’t resist a sneaky shot! I wussed out at actually going up to the girl and getting a picture with her though, kinda wish I had now. She wore a Rubix Cube on her head and had a matching handbag. Her dress was a retro, colour block number and was pretty stylish as well is fitting in with her theme! I think I might have to steal this in future, i just loved it! She looked fab!
‘Till next time!
Sorry for my terrible blogging, this last week has been a little hectic to say the least.
Last weekend we visited some of Ash’s friends and had a nerdy weekend away in the midlands.
We ate chinese take away and played Lord of the Rings Risk into the early hours of the morning and generally had lots of fun.
We have also been rearranging our flat as we’ve just bought a new desk for the grand price of 99p! We decided there wasn’t enough room for the both of us on one desk and that, even though it would be a squeeze, we could just about fit another desk in. Ash found a desk on ebay which is very similar to the desk we already have, just without the bookcase attached to the end. He bid on it and ended up being the only bidder! Lucky us!
We picked it up yesterday and tried to figure out how to fit it in. We’ve finally settled on moving our desks in front of the window and next to our bed. This makes that side of the room very cramped, but the side with a tv is now lovely and spacious, perfect for playing my kinect! 😀
We haven’t quite finished setting everything up (we have far too much stuff accumulated for such a small flat! It’s ridiculous), but when we have it’s should be small but far easier for us both to get on with our own things. Finally I’ll have lots of room to sew!
I’ve also been on a few nights out, one with work, another with my sister with lots of movember madness and a quiet drunken pub night with Ash. All we’re very fun and left me feeling a little worse for ware the next day.
I do have lots of fun posts planned for future, including a make-up tutorial, some tips for your CV and many more helpful things! I just need to get round to writing them…
Until next time!
I’ve been a busy bee lately. Not only working long shifts at the day job (a 10 hour shift the other day!) but i’ve been busy taking pictures and sewing.
I decided that some of my older listings in my Etsy shop had some pretty poor images and so thought it was time to update them. So far i’ve updated these Large Orange Earrings and these Gold Triple Stranded Earrings.
I’ve also taking pictures of a new set of earrings that have been made for a while but never listed. These Venetian Glass and Pearl Earrings are now available in my shop! (And with it i’ve reached 20 items!!)
But i’ve got more! Last night I finally got round to finishing off a tie for my boyfriend. He loves playing Minecraft (and I actually really enjoy it too) so I thought he might appreciate a Minecraft styled tie. I have loads of Green material and so thought a creeper (one of the monsters in game which explode if you get too close) would be a great choice.
I think it’s come out great! One of the eyes is a little wonky, but overall I’m very proud of my work, so much so that this is now also available in my shop (made to order)! This is also more the route I want my items to go down from now on, cute, fun and quirky items.
For now though I need to eat and then go to work, so that’s enough photographing and editing for today! Hopefully I will be updating with more new items soon!
Till next time!
I haven’t been updating things recently as i’ve been busy working far too many hours at my day job, but at least it’s (sort of) paying the bills.
Even on my (very few) days off i’ve been off doing other things and haven’t been able to sew.
On Saturday we took a trip to the Natural History Museum with one of Ash’s friends. I love that museum, maybe because i’m obsessed with animals and they have a giant dinosaur… But i soon had to go home as I had work in the evening. Still, it was a very exciting day out 🙂
Yesterday I had a day off, but again spent it having fun rather than sewing (ok so a different kind of fun…). I think Ash has been feeling a little neglected with me working so much, even when i’m home i tend to be working on Penguin Theory, so we decided to use my day off to have some couple time. We spent the morning playing video games together (i managed to squeeze in a little Penguin Theory time) and just generally having a laugh together.
Then in the evening we decided to go to the cinema. We don’t have a lot of money and so the only reason we thought of doing this was because of an offer with Galaxy chocolate bags. 4 bags gained us 1 free cinema ticket, and considering the tesco below us sells them for £1 each, this makes the tickets extremely cheap! So that was the sweets and tickets sorted, so we just took in a few bottles of mountain dew that had been left at ours. We even saved money on parking as it was free after 6! We’re planning on doing it again as we can get two more free tickets.
The only problem is we already have enough chocolate to last a week…wait did I say problem?
Today though I have been a busy bee. I’ve already listed a new item, an adorable reversible apron for children!
I’ve been playing with the background on these images and now they seem to match my banners and logo. What do you guys think to it?
Talking of banners, i’ve updated not only my blog banner, and etsy widget but also the banner on my etsy shop and some of the images on the About page! Personally I think they’re an improvement but feedback would be greatly appreciated 🙂
In even more exciting news! This morning I seem to be on the Europe wide Etsy homepage! I feel kind of like a celebrity! I got so excited i even made a screenshot before it disapeared. You can see my pink flower apron in the middle of the top row of aprons.
All in all a very exciting few days 🙂
But now it’s time for the day job again…
Till next time!
As I promised, I have improved on the skirt I made the other day. I found that the waistline was extremely messy as the material had been rather hard to work with. I just cut out a strip of black fabric, folded over the edges and folded it over the top, simple but extremely effective! I absolutely love the result. Makes it look so much neater!
Now i’m working on my next project. I have a few halloween things in mind to make (although I’m not sure If I really have enough fabric in the right colours) and also all those Christmas items still in mind along with a few other projects.
But before that I think i’m going to play my new Sims 3 game I bought with a voucher I got for my birthday. I actually had quite a shock when it arrived yesterday. It had been sent to my mums house, as I’d forgotten to change the delivery address, and she’d nicely sent it on to me by recorded delivery with some other post as well.
We’ve always had a problem with our post, our postman just drops everything off downstairs despite tesco telling him it doesn’t belong there but he really doesn’t care. I went downstairs yesterday to see if there was any post for us and found my package on the floor and torn open. Even the letters inside had been opened and then put back in. We’re wondering if it was someone searching for some form of identity to steal as my new game and all the other post was safe and sound. Luckily for us we found Ash’s passports (they’d been sent off to student finance) safe in tesco.
Both these packages had to be signed for (the sims game recorded delivery and the passports on special) and we’d been in all day, yet no one had even rung our doorbell. Obviously we’re really not very impressed with Royal Mail at the moment.
I told my mum about it and she immediately got on the phone to complain to them, hopefully something will come of it.
But at least nothing was stolen, so now I get to play Sims before carrying on with a bit more sewing 🙂
Till next time!!
Last Sunday we met up with a couple of Ash’s friends and decided to go for a nice pub lunch as the weather was reasonably nice. We both ended up having burgers and afterwards were so full that we just made a few pancakes for our tea (or dinner for you non-northerners). He spent the rest of the evening playing xbox with his friend whilst I messed about on my laptop and eventually fell asleep.
On monday one our regulars came into work and decided to give us all easter eggs! He’s such a lovely old man and my egg has already been devoured despite it not being easter yet. Whoops!
Weatherspoons is also bringing out a brand new menu, so obviously the staff need to get acquainted with the new foods and we have to try them all. What a shame. Unfortunately i didn’t go to the meeting where we got to sample all the new things as i’d worked in the morning, but one of the managers did make me an ice cream sundae (which was delicious by the way). We sold our first ice cream sundae yesterday and the little girl I gave it too was so amazed when it came out exclaiming ‘WOW!’ very loudly. It was adorable!
Hopefully we should get the keys for our new flat tomorrow! (I haven’t heard anything to say otherwise as of yet) Very exciting times. I wont be sad to miss the (what’s supposed to be) 40 minute commute on the M25. I’m sure that has to be the worst motorway to commute on, everyone drives like a maniac, under taking, speeding, not indicating, and that’s not mentioning the roadworks that seem to randomly appear and disappear. No wonder there’s so many accidents.
Yesterday the 40minute journey took me 2hours.
Apparently there’d been a car fire on one of the slip roads but then there were several accidents along the way as well and I seemed to get caught behind them all. I’m sure that most of my time on that motorway is spent in first, just riding the clutch.
I think i’d find it too weird to have a trip on that road where i didn’t get held up in all honesty…
Till next time!!
