On the 27th I finally finished this tie I’d had in mind for far too long and I love it! It’s already available on my etsy here
On the 28th I opened the kitchen for the second time ever and first time on my own (5am starts! Ouch!) but as I was lighting the grill I noticed it looked kinda pretty. Obviously being at work I only had my phone on me, but the picture still came out pretty cool…or should I say hot 😉
On the 29th I was playing with this adorable fabric! I think I have to buy more soon!
On the 30th I dressed up all Chinese style for a photoshoot to celebrate the new year! Ok, so I didn’t actually take these photo’s but I did think of the concept, the styling, modelled and directed the shoot so I think it still counts. You can find the post I wrote here
I did actually take a photo myself on this day (sort of, it was after midnight but I was only just leaving work and hadn’t slept yet so I guess it counts). The weather was super foggy and looked awesome so I just couldn’t resist!
The 31st I had finished the adorable-fabric skirt and it really is cute! I took some bad phone photo’s as my camera’s battery had died and I’d lost the charger! Oops! Lots of photo editing later and you can find the skirt in my shop here
On the first (wow February already!) I had my last day of work for two weeks! Yey for being owed holiday! I also went and bought a new charger as I will be needing my Camera on Sunday! This charger not only charges my old styled DSLR battery (my camera is a very old model) but also AA, AAA (etc.), newer camera batteries, phones and has a car adapter! It’s going to be perfect for holidaying!
Today is Sunday and I’m afraid you’ll have to wait for the photo as I’m probably out and about taking it! I’m adventuring to the centre of London for the Chinese New Year celebrations and hoping to get a few really good shots! I’ll definitely update with a blog post when i’m back and the photo’s are fully edited so keep your eyes peeled!
What have you been celebrating this week?
Yesterday I decided to wear this lovely grey, woollen dress from Zara. It’s very plain, but very versatile which I LOVE.
I felt like making my outfit a bit more festive by adding these cute winter tights i probably bought from Primark (lets face it, most of my clothes come from there). I just love the adorable snowflake and heart pattern! I find these adorable ‘pixie’ boots from new look go perfectly with most outfits, I haven’t wore them in a while and so I had to show them a little bit of love 😉
I also added this sparkly belt to add a bit of festive glitz to the outfit. I’m pretty sure that this is, again, from Primark.
To finish it off I continued with the festive theme by adding a festive colour! I went with my bright red Zatchel and red beaded bracelet. I just love this bag, it’s so well made and big enough to carry everything I need.
Over the top I wore the cape that I made myself which again adds a bit of wintery sparkles. I’ve actually been thinking about ways I can improve this cape design and hope to be making many more in the near future! Although I know there are a lot of improvements to be made with this cape I still love it dearly and love to show it off at any possible moment.
For my make up I went for some subtle, but striking, eyes. I used white and silver/grey eye shadow before lining with black eyeliner and then a sparkly eyeliner on top (again adding to the glitz!)
I decided i wanted bold lips and what better than bright red to match my bag! I very rarely wear lipstick but definitely think I should do it more often.
I just left my hair in it’s natural, wavy state (i’m far to lazy to actually do any serious styling) and just pinned back the front to keep it out of my eyes. Despite being so simple my boyfriend kept saying it looked really nice! Sometimes I guess simple is the way forward. 🙂
Do you like to wear bold colours?
I have been playing with my photography and decided I’d love to make some more interesting things out of it. I got brainstorming and have come up with some good ideas, the first of which is now up for sale!
This is the first of my clock series. I have many more ideas and will be accepting commissions if you have a particular print of mine (or even your own!) which you would like to be turned into a clock.
This modern clock features some gorgeous welsh countryside, complete with grazing sheep!
It measures 30cm in diameter. It is also available with numbering or dashes, please contact me for more details.
The back is signed with ‘The Penguin Theory’ the clock name, and the number of clock made. It runs with a standard AA battery which is easily changeable and has a hook on the clock mechanism to hang it on your wall.
There will be more clocks to come in future as well as more prints and some new sewing items! (Yes i promise I haven’t forgotten about the sewing machine)
In other news, I finally got some new glasses! They’re just for reading and computing so hopefully I will be able to see what i’m editing a bit more easily now. 🙂
‘Till next time!
It was my birthday a few weeks ago and to celebrate I decided what better way than with Zoo Lates at London Zoo!
I am obsessed with animals (especially Lions and Penguins) and felt that I just couldn’t pass up this opportunity.
The zoo was filled with exciting things to see and do, we started with the animals, in particular the Africa area. We spent probably far too long laughing at an Okapi’s tongue, watched a graceful giraffe, braved the nocturnal section, searched for the illusive sumatran tiger, partied with the penguins, longed after lions and much more!
My favourites, of course, were the Lions and Penguins. The Lions we’re so close to the glass I could’ve touched them! The penguins unfortunately stayed towards the back of their enclosure, but then again it was right before they closed so maybe they were all tired. I pulled a penguin pose for the camera and then tried to steal one of the cardboard cut outs…Or at least thought about stealing it…
They also had lots of bars, all with a different theme such as the playroom where you could have a wrestling match, hula hoop, play jenga and even twister! There was a silent disco where everyone wears headphones which the music is played through, hilarious to listen too when you take them off and hear everyone singing out of tune. There was also a big international food market with lots of tasty delights to sample.
I wore a bright, high waisted, tribal skirt to to give off an African feel and matched it with a bright orange crop top and sandals. I felt quite…naked. I’m not used to going out in such little clothing, but it was really warm and so i didn’t regret it.
I even painted my nails to match with the animal theme!
The whole event was very well run. There were loads of things to do, not just seeing the animals, the staff were extremely helpful and the atmosphere was electric! The animals started going to bed (or so we were told) at 8:30 and gradually the enclosures were closed off until everyone was in the ‘entertainments’ area for the last half hour.
Afterwards we carried on the party in Camden, always a fun place to go.
The day after was my actual birthday. I decided what better way to celebrate and recover from the night before than by having a bbq! We borrowed a friends garden and bbq and then had a nice, relaxed afternoon chilling in the sun (if you ignore the random downpour that stopped as suddenly as it started!)
For the bbq I decided to dress up a bit still and wore one of my favourite dresses. I bought it at a festival and have always loved the way it poofs out in the skirt. The fabric is also really pretty, I fell in love with it at first sight!
I kept myself warm with a cute, batwing cardigan from warehouse.
I made these earrings ages ago and found they matched perfectly! I really like the little red and blue beads and was experimenting with using suade, i think they turned out really nice.
The bag is from Zatchels and was a suprise birthday gift from my sister! Zatchels are all handmade and just exquisite. I absolutely love it and it even has a little space for one of my business cards to be on display! They come in a wide range of colours and patterns too.
It was a really great birthday! Hopefully next years will be just as good!
I finally updated my Etsy shop with a new listing! I got the inspiration for this tie from my day out at Royal Ascot. I felt this would be the perfect tie for the more laid back man who wanted to show his patriotic side.
It boasts fun a fun print of royal crowns on a vivid, red background and is made of cotton.
You can find the item in my shop by clicking here
All my other projects, though, seem to be very against me. I’m either messing up the measurements, making silly little mistakes or just not having enough material.
I’ve decided all these projects have been weighing me down as they’ve been in progress for months and I just dont know where to go with them, and so I decided it was time to start afresh. There’s no point in forcing these other ones, my theory is that I’ll think of a way to fix my problems when i’m not forcing myself to.
So i’ve started a brand new summer project! So far so good, lets just hope it stays that way!
‘Till next time!
I’ve been bad and haven’t quite gotten round to much sewing, but I do have another competition for you all!
Again it’s for a Penguin Theory Tote bag with your choice of lining (to be discussed with the lucky winner)
It’s easy to enter: Just tell me what your favourite penguin is! Simples!
I have a handy little thing from rafflecopter this time as well. You can enter here on my facebook page
Remember you can also buy this bag on my Etsy and 20% of every sale goes to the RSPB to help save rockhopper penguins!
After months of promising a competition finally I have gotten round to it.
Up for grabs is this cute, summery tote bag, a great addition to any summer wardrobe! Perfect for adults and children alike. 🙂 Even The Penguin Theory’s Penguin wants it!
Myself and The Penguin Theory Mascot realised that he doesn’t have a name, this upset us both greatly. We racked our brains for a suitable name but just couldn’t decide on one so we want YOU to help!
So how can you help? It’s SIMPLE!
Just comment on this blog and/or this image on facebook with the name you think would be perfect for him and that’s it, done!
Of course don’t forget to follow and like so you know if you’ve won or not! 😉
Each person can enter twice (once on facebook and once on here) and I will put all the names into a hat (or most likely a bag) to be drawn in a weeks time.
The Penguin Theory
On Saturday I went to see my sister in London. We went to Old Spitalfields market to have a gander of all the different products. There were some really amazing products and some great, quirky inspiration! It was actually a very good eye-opener for me who is having trouble with which direction to take my business next. I know I need a more cohesive theme but i’m struggling to find my niche. I recommend anyone having the same trouble to go and have a gander around other handmade shops, businesses and market places. Look at what they do, how they present their products and gain inspiration from their products (baring in mind that copying and inspiration are two completely different things of course).
I actually ended up buying this adorable Penguin Print from Katie Viggers and can’t wait to get it framed and up on my wall (although knowing me it will probably stay in it’s protective envelope for far too long)
We then wen’t for a bit of retail therapy around the corner in a shopping centre. I ended up spending far too much money in H&M but definitely don’t regret any of my purchases. I got an adorable dress with a christmas light print and mesh layer on top, a snazzy jacket and two pretty t-shirts (one bought for me by my generous sister who saw me pining after it). I also spent my Next christmas voucher on a snazzy pair of sunglasses!
A very successful shopping trip!
We then decided it was time for a bite to eat and had some business chat over a bowl of chips and a few drinks.
We brainstormed about my business and where i wanted it to go next. We talked about the items we had seen at the market and how I could make similar things with my own unique stamp on them. Most of all we talked about how I could make my shop cohesive and about how to market my products.
It was really useful to have a big chat about the shop and has really helped me to see what I want for it in the future.
I feel i have more direction with my business now. I just need to wait for a few more supplies to arrive for me to really get stuck in, but I promise there are exciting things for the future, i just need to make sure I stay motivated and don’t procrastinate too much.
‘Till next time!
Although I’m not sure how much longer I want to work in the pub, I do really love the people there. Sure there is the odd annoying, rude customer but the friendly customers (and hilarious staff) are the ones that make it all worth while!
There are a lot of the regulars that are great to have a chat with but there is one gentleman in particular who is the jolliest man you will ever meet, he loves his ale and always exclaims ‘marvellous’ in his deep voice when you hand him his pint. He actually knows about ‘The Penguin Theory’ and follows my facebook page ‘liking’ most of my statuses on there.
He always asks how the sewing is going and has recently started telling me that ‘This is the year penguins will fly’.
I absolutely love this phrase and have now changed my blogs tag line to this because this IS the year the penguin theory will get off the ground and start flapping it’s wings! It’s just so perfectly fitting that I had to steal it (although he has stated that there’s ‘no need to steal for your blog, you have a gift’).
It’s people like this that really keep me motivated. The fact that so many seem to believe I can do it (and not just people from work, friends and family too and of course my boyfriend is a HUGE help) is really a big confidence booster. Without everyone’s support I would have probably given up by now, but the hard work is paying off and sales are being made. I am really starting to believe in myself now and, as long as I keep up the hard work, I know I can make something of myself.
So heres to you Michael! When I’m rich and the penguins are soaring, I will buy you a drink!
If you have or know someone with a little girl who loves cute, pretty things then this would be an awesome gift this Christmas!
This adorable skirt is 100% cotton and features two layers of different sized polkadots.
The elastic waistband makes it a very comfy fit and also gives it room for growing children, It measures 23 inches when relaxed and 38 inches when fully stretched. It is 13 inches long.
It is the perfect summer skirt!
But wait, didn’t I say it was perfect for a Christmas present? But that’s in Winter!
Although I do think it is the perfect summer skirt, I also think it would be adorable in winter with a pair of thick white cotton tights.
If you like this skirt but would like adjustments to the waist or length then I do take custom orders. I would take around 2 weeks for me to complete and I can make it to any specifications you would like (longer, more/less layers, different colours, adult sizes etc). Just click the ‘Contact Me’ tab at the top of this page to get in touch and I will see what I can do for you!
The skirt in the Pictures can be found for sale here
Tomorrow is the Day of the WI Finchley Frost Fair!
I’m a little worried to have my crafts sat along side all these artists and definitely wish I had more stock, but I am excited non the less. Just have a 12 -close shift (yes that’s 13+ hours) to get out of the way and then I can get even more excited!
Here are a couple of my new Items you might be able to see there:
A cute, double layered, polkadot skirt for a toddler.
A little boys apron, so he can make mud pies or what ever little boys like to eat.
Hope to see you there!!
Till next time!
Well i’ve been working non stop this week. As I said before, lots of staff have left and so I’ve been given loads of hours. 42 to be exact. Not that I will get paid much for it.
I do really love my job and the people there and being able to interact with customers but i’m finding it harder and harder to want to stay. Reason’s just keep popping up telling me to leave, lack of money being one of them. I’ve decided to have a word with my boss first but I am already scouting around to see what else is out there. I heard admin jobs pay quite well.
But anyway, I finally got round to doing some more crafty related things. I’ve applied for some more craft fairs, updated all my social media (this blog included) and made a new treasury! I’m sure i might have said that the next treasury I posted about would be a Halloween one but I’ve decided to get involved with Craft Britannia’s shop of the week finally, after months of just following silently. So here’s a nice little treasury based on Colour Me Fun’s amazing Crayons! You should seriously check out the shop, it is adorable!
I found these crayons in the shop and immediately fell in love!
For one Lions are my favourite animals, two these are just plain adorable, although I doubt i’d ever dare use them! I think I actually might buy some for my cousin for christmas (along with some other items). Because these are named ‘Jungle Animal Crayons’ I decided to do a jungle themed treasury.
However as I search deeper into the jungle that is the Etsy search, I found that more and more Lions were popping up…Lions happen to be my favourite animal and always have been (closely followed by the penguin and red panda) and I found myself just wanting to pick all the lion items. So I ended up with a Lion themed treasury!
Isn’t this just the cutest neck warmer you’ve ever seen? I wish I was several years younger so that I could wear it. I might just buy it anyway! Who said i’m so old for this adorableness!
I love cute and quirky things, especially on my ears, and these are just amazing. These adorable studs are hand drawn and just make me want to ‘squee’.
Isn’t this just the cutest dress you’ve ever seen? This is the kind of thing I wanted when I was a child (and still do!), the kind of thing I will force any kids I have to wear whether they like it or not. Perfect for halloween, perfect for everyday, just perfect for a Lion Obsessed person like me. I wonder if it can come in a larger size…
This cute cushion is made from organic cotton and can come in a range of colours! I think it would be perfect for a childs room, it would definitely suit my childhood bedroom which was jungle themed before i decided I liked fishes.
I really love the print of of the lion on this cushion, it’s proud stance and fierce glare. Still not sure whether or not i’d prefer it without the hat but then I remember there’s pompoms and I chuckle.
Now this is an item I think I’m actually buying myself for definite. I’ve been looking for a phone case for ages and this one is not only available for the S3 but also the Iphone and the S2 (my phone). My boyfriend says it’s too expensive and that there’s loads of cheap cases out there but I just don’t think they could ever live up to a Lion wearing Aviators.
Don’t you just love the colours of this one! It’s just a big tower of colourful Roars and it looks awesome. I wish I still had the wallpaper from when I was little because I would totally buy this to match! Ok now i’m starting to miss my old wallpaper…
What’s better than a bunch of cute animals? A bunch of cute animals wearing party hats of course! These invitations are just adorable, maybe I need to organise an animal themed party to give myself an excuse to buy these…
Well this painting is just badass. I love the lion and the pop art style. It would be a great focal piece for any room.
Another picture but this one is a little cuter. I love typography and this reminds me of the part in The Lion King where Simba is learning to roar. Cute!
Speaking of The Lion King… It is and has always been my favourite film (although a few more have crept up to join it at the number one spot in recent years) and this poster shows the film off perfectly. I love the use of the sun as an eye, and the pose of the male lion. I just wish there was a Timone and Pumba! Still, if I was allowed things on my wall I think this would be up there.
This little set is so cute with those cute little booties, the animal bib and matching burp cloth. Just adorable!
If my hair wasn’t practically a mane already then I think this would already be in my wardrobe. But how cute is this? I don’t think I should ever be allowed it as I’d probably end up never taking it off.
I love reading and the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is a classic! This shop has other similar brooches from other classic books too and is really worth checking out. I have my eye on the Metamorphosis one as I studied that play for my A Levels and absolutely loved it.
Another brooch but completely different to the last. This cute little fabric lion would look adorable pinned to a childs coat. They come it lots of different colours and patterns too.
That’s all the items I have for you for now. I hope you find them all as adorable as I do!
‘Till next time!
I’ve finally listed my first christmas Item on Etsy! This lovely festive stocking
It is fully lined and the outer fabric is made of a green, and a red and gold cotton. The perfect edition to your fireplace!
I even included my own hand-stitched logo on the back!
My mum has already asked if I can do this in blue and gold (the colours she decorates the house in at christmas) for her. If anyone else would like one of these in different colours, or even a different design, please don’t hesitate to ask!
Hopefully I will be creating some more festive Items soon! Maybe another stocking or two 🙂
For now though I’m going to start an exciting project which will create some fabulous gifts for small children!
I will definitely be listing more and more items soon though as I create more stock for the festive season, I’ve also been applying for lots of christmas craft fairs! Fingers crossed at least one of them wants me! 🙂
‘Till next time!
I’ve been busy at my day job and sewing as usual, today in particular has been jam packed (especially for a day off)!
I have a christmas stocking i’m busy sewing but keep getting distracted…I’ve been sewing for days and it definitely should have been finished by now.
We also did the food shop, although it was less for food and more for house hold cleaning products with a few veg thrown in.
I then cut my boyfriends hair!
I was a little worried about how it would turn out…but it seems to be pretty good! I don’t have a before shot unfortunately (it was really quite long!) but here’s the after! :
Maybe I have a new career direction? hehe.
Hopefully will be updating with some exciting new products tomorrow, but I have an extremely long shift so i could very well just collapse and refuse to do anything once i’m home.
‘Till next time!
I’ve started work on a new big project that I want to build a whole range around. I’ve had this idea floating around in my head for ages, since I first started sewing really, and thought it was now time to act on it. It’s actually proved to be more difficult than expected but I think the effort will be worth it!
I went out shopping yesterday for the items I needed and some more material so now all that’s left to do is make it!
I think i’ll finish the christmas stocking i’m making first though, I don’t need any more half finished items at the moment.
I also bought some new work shoes whilst i was out, unfortunately I was in a rush and so just grabbed a pair with my size on. It turns out that someone had put the wrong size on the wrong hanger and so I now have a pair of shoes which don’t fit me and another with a massive hole in the toe. I guess I’ll have to go out again tomorrow when I have a day off.
Will be updating very soon to unveil my new items!
‘Till next time!
I’ve been a busy bee lately. Not only working long shifts at the day job (a 10 hour shift the other day!) but i’ve been busy taking pictures and sewing.
I decided that some of my older listings in my Etsy shop had some pretty poor images and so thought it was time to update them. So far i’ve updated these Large Orange Earrings and these Gold Triple Stranded Earrings.
I’ve also taking pictures of a new set of earrings that have been made for a while but never listed. These Venetian Glass and Pearl Earrings are now available in my shop! (And with it i’ve reached 20 items!!)
But i’ve got more! Last night I finally got round to finishing off a tie for my boyfriend. He loves playing Minecraft (and I actually really enjoy it too) so I thought he might appreciate a Minecraft styled tie. I have loads of Green material and so thought a creeper (one of the monsters in game which explode if you get too close) would be a great choice.
I think it’s come out great! One of the eyes is a little wonky, but overall I’m very proud of my work, so much so that this is now also available in my shop (made to order)! This is also more the route I want my items to go down from now on, cute, fun and quirky items.
For now though I need to eat and then go to work, so that’s enough photographing and editing for today! Hopefully I will be updating with more new items soon!
Till next time!
The 27th was my birthday and also happened to be the date of the Olympics Opening Ceremony. Obviously this meant a party was needed. I invited a few friends around, gathered some snacks and alcohol and made sure the tele was on the right channel. We played some fun olympic drinking games whilst watching the ceremony.
The ceremony itself actually surprised me, in a good way. I don’t know quite what I was expecting, but that wasn’t it. It far exceeded my expectations. At first I wasn’t so sure, the whole arena looked like a field and, although the performance was good, I couldn’t see how much they could do with the set as it was. But then the towers majestically rose out of the ground and the whole stage was transformed seamlessly.
Then later James Bond goes to see the Queen. At this point everyone in the room were arguing as to whether or not it was really the queen. Then she turned around. We were very impressed. Thinking this couldn’t get any better, we all stared in disbelief queen jumped out of the helicopter! We we’re all in fits of laughter. I’m just sad that they didn’t get a stunt double to actually parachute down.
Then it got even better with Rowan Atkinson appearing as Mr Bean. I was obsessed with Mr Bean when I was younger and I made sure no one spoke whilst he was on screen. I always find it amazing that he can create so much laughter without even speaking. He is truly a talented man.
Eventually we went out and about in Camden and had a good boogie.
If you read my last post you will have seen that I mentioned that my family had put a lot into the penguin theory. That is certainly very true, they’ve always been very supportive. It was my sister who first got me involved in making jewellery by taking me to a bead shop in Leeds. There were so many pretty shiny things I immediately wanted to make something pretty and bought lots.
When I first mentioned that I wanted to start sewing it was my mum who bought me my first machine last year. Just a small, cheap (for a sewing machine) john lewis model, but perfect for a beginner. I’m usually not the best at keeping up a hobby (I seem to get bored rather quickly and give up once i find something that’s hard) so I definitely didn’t expect anything more. But for my birthday this year my mum and her boyfriend completely stunned me. They bought me a brand new, full sized, 39 stitch, electrical sewing machine. For them to get together and buy me something it must have cost a lot and I can tell this is quite a good sewing machine. I’m so excited to use it!
It’s made me feel really motivated. The amount of money they must have spent on my hobby and has made me realise that I have to keep at it and do well, or more that I can. My aunt also bought me lots of books about selling online and at craft fairs which are proving to be very useful. In fact I think I will do book reviews of them all in the near future for anyone else thinking of buying them.
My family have always supported my sewing, buying things off me (my sister recently bought some bunting, my aunt bought some bibs), complimenting my products, telling all their friends to look at my facebook page. My boyfriend is even helping out, forcing me to do the admin and even helping when i’m stuck drawing a pattern, he really has been a life saver at times. I really am grateful for the support they give me and probably would have given up long ago if it wasn’t for them.
Yesterday I also got involved with the Olympics! My sister and her housemate had a spare ticket for volleyball so I of course decided to join. We saw the mens Swiss vs Russia and USA vs Poland followed by the Womens Australian vs Austria. Unfortunately we had to leave then as the others needed to get up early and so missed the last match, but it was an amazing experience! The atmosphere was electric and the players were brilliant. Lots of dancers came on during the breaks and got the whole crowd moving. Definitely was an exciting experience and I’m delighted that I had a chance to go.
On the way home we actually saw the swiss team going back to their hotel. We congratulated them on their win and managed to get a photo with them! They were super nice guys (and extremely tall!), definitely backing them for a medal.
For now though, I have books to read and a sewing machine to learn how to use! (I haven’t tried it yet as I’m reading everything in the manual before I touch it)
So until next time!
Ok so I didn’t finish the apron I said I was going to finish, but I did do most of it by the time I said. I didn’t want to sew too late as my sewing machine is really loud, although I might have solved this by putting it atop a nice wad of fabric now.
But anyways it’s all done now, finished a couple of hours ago! Just got to wait for the Boyfriend to get home so I can give it to him. Now i’m making another ‘cupcake’ apron for a very young child with a matching chefs hat. Should be very cute.
I could have finished it yesterday, however i went to be an extra a filming instead. I was paid £5 towards travel and given as much tea and biscuits as I liked. We were also fed some delicious stew and rice. Seriously the best stew i’ve ever tasted!
There was an extra surprise in store as James Phelps of Harry Potter fame (Fred Weasley) was also being filmed.
Cue me showing my distinct lack of smoothness whilst trying to get a picture. The accidental flash definitely gave me away and he was looking right at me. My surprised noise and quick movement of the phone also did nothing to help matters and at the end I only got a blurry picture of a table.
The thing is he seemed totally nice and like he wouldn’t have minded at all if i’d just asked, but I was having a Socially Awkward Penguin moment and couldn’t pluck up the courage to just say hi.
Even better is that I’ve agreed to go on Saturday as well. I wonder if he’ll be there again.
I’ve also been busy trying to solve a rubix cube as my boyfriend is trying to teach me. For ages I couldn’t even do the first stage but now I’m doing better, although need a lot more practice.
Hopefully I will have solved my first rubix cube in the next couple of days.
Till then I better get practicing and sewing and trying to be smooth.
So again i’ve had a busy week.
I’ve been applying for jobs left, right and center and yet so far have only had two come back to me. Both part timers at Weatherspoons.
To be honest these would be perfect for me if I could get one (one more than the other for location) as then I can have a regular income as well as time to make my crafty things and audition for acting jobs.
I went for my first interview today at the ‘spoons’ i’d most like to work with as it’s located exactly where myself and the boyfriend we’re thinking of moving too (yes we’re moving again, this room is only temporary whilst we find a place). I think it went well, at least I did the best I could. I will find out in a couple of days whether or not I made it through to the second stage of interviews so fingers crossed!
Just incase though, I have the other interview tomorrow and I’m still applying for jobs.
I also have some acting jobs lined up. Ok so they’re voluntary, but it should be good for my film reel and such so all’s good.
Luckily I now have all my sewing and jewellery equipment set up and in use now! So I have lots of things I can make to fill my time in between the job search. We bought a new desk and bookcase thing from IKEA (love that place) which looks pretty nifty! Unfortunately we don’t have a chair yet so i’m having to sit on some drawers which isn’t the most comfortable but it will suffice.
I have several projects on the go at the moment including an apron for my boyfriend as he’s been asking for one from me for ages. I found this Batman fabric and decided it had to be done. He’s very excited.
I’m sure i’ll be able to show the results tomorrow.
If not i’ve been naughty and got distracted again.
Till next time!
It was recently my cousins 10th birthday and I’d heard that she might like one of my aprons. So I toddled off to look for material with my sister and came across this ADORABLE cupcake stuff!
So I got to work. Aprons are pretty much second nature to me now after the mounds of them made for christmas and so it was pretty easy going, but as usual I seemed to leave most of the work until the last minute. I’ll learn one day i’m sure.
My grandparents also commissioned me to make her a bracelet and necklace.
When she opened up her present she was very pleased, especially as it matched a cupcake cookbook she’d got earlier on in the day! I need to find some time to go visit and bake some cupcakes with her I think.
Just a couple of days ago I went to a Conference/Awards Ceremony at my boyfriends work. Partly because I wasn’t doing anything else, partly because I barely see him with the hours he works. His office decided all to wear Maroon ties so I went to town and found some sale bargains so I could fit in with their colour scheme! This whole outfit cost less then £30 (Not including my shoes). I think the bag was the biggest bargain of the day, reduced to £8 from over £20.
There were lots of speeches which were actually very interesting and quite inspirational, some of them were even giving off the same message as ‘The Penguin Theory’ from earlier on in my blog. There was only one speaker who I started dozing off too which I think was pretty good going. Then there was talk of a ‘guest speaker’. We figured it would end up being maybe the owner of the company or something. Needless to say, we were very pleasantly surprised when out walked James Caan (of Dragons Den fame)!
He talked about how he got into business and how he got onto Dragons Den. It was very inspirational and he truly seems like a likeable, hardworking man. Apparently his first investment on Dragons Den was a Doggy Treadmill.
After the conference I asked Ash if we could go on a little date as we’d barely seen each other. We ended up going to a Giraffe restaurant. I had a posh Chicken Kiev which was very tasty. It was really nice to just be able to speak to each other and have fun, it felt like we hadn’t had some ‘us’ time in ages. Even though we now live together it’s doesn’t really feel like it as he works so much…He’s just a teddybear I cuddle at night (once he arrives home).
But he is a very cuddly teddybear so i’m not complaining.
For now though I’m having to rely on my Gromit (of wallace and gromit) hotwater bottle cover to cuddle as i’m back in the north. Not for long though as i’m just picking up the last of my things (including all of my craft things!) before going back again tomorrow.
I’ve missed my crafts far too much so i’m ridiculously excited to finally be able to pick them up!
Till next time!
