Fashion is always a big thing at festivals, I’m never quite sure why as it usually gets very cold, wet and muddy (at least in the uk) and, with lack of showers, it is hard to keep yourself looking presentable. But if you really must make sure you look your best at all times, here a few tips for you to really get into the festival spirit fashionably.
DO wear flowers in your hair. Festivals are notoriously ‘hippie’ themed and everyone loves a flower headband.
DON’T forget a big hat. Keep the sun out of your eyes whilst still looking stylish (or maybe a bit silly).
DO wear sensible shoes. Sandals, Vans, Toms or Converse at the dryer festivals, an awesome pair of wellies at the wetter ones. Also bring a pair of flip flops for those quick, late night toilet runs.
DON’T wear a floor length skirt. Even if the ground is dry, the portaloos get disgusting. Do you really want it dragging through god knows what on those floors? The answer is no.
DO bring some uber cool, hippie shorts. Not only are these really really comfy, but they look pretty awesome too. Perfect for relaxing at a festival.
DON’T be afraid to go ridiculous on your outfit choice. There’s always someone in fancy dress bringing a smile to everyones face, if you don’t mind the attention than why shouldn’t it be you?
DO wear lace. It’s always extremely popular, and that’s because it’s just plain pretty! Plus it’s a good way to keep cool at the hotter festivals.
DONT wear high shoes. Your feet will be in agony by the end of the day, and if it rains then you have no chance. Even if you think they’d be fine, even the slightest heel will feel like torture by the end of the day.
DO plait your hair. You wont have anywhere to really shower and dry shampoo is only so good, plaits are a great way to keep your hair looking nice and tidy whilst still pretty.
DON’T wear ridiculously short shorts. This picture was probably the most unpleasant i’ve seen, but no matter how skinny you are I really do not want to see your bum, or your frilly knickers. I don’t even understand how this is a fashion at the moment.
DO wear the merch you buy. I mean, why not? You probably spent a lot on that t-shirt or bagtanned, you may as well show your support.
DON’T wear body paint unless you don’t mind the suntan lines. I personally wouldn’t want pale dots up my legs for the next few weeks.
DO make sure you’re comfortable and happy in what ever you wear!
More festival Do’s and Don’ts coming up soon!
As the weather was rather nice today, Ash and I decided to go for a nice little stroll in a nearby park.
I wore my Alpaca jumper my mother brought me back from Peru as it was still a little nippy and Alpaca wool is amazing at keeping in the heat!
I also wore a pretty little headscarf I bought from either Egypt or Jordan (I can’t remember which) around my neck and some cute animal print converse, although in hindsight maybe I should have worn wellies!
We took lots of pictures of the new buds that were struggling their way out of the earth and the blossoms on the trees.
Ash took this last one, I told him to stop being so good. You should follow him on Instagram as his photo’s are far superior to mine. Just search ‘Ashloids’.
Once we got home we decided it was the perfect day to have a summery lunch. I cooked us some asparagus with egg, toast, salad and a frankfurter. My egg was a double yolker which I probably got a little too excited over…
Hopefully the weather will keep getting warmer now so we can have even more pretty walks!
‘Till next time!
I’ve finally managed to complete my project! It only took me like a week?
Unfortunately I don’t have time to do the tutorial as I promised. It’s been a very busy day (walking to the petrol station to fill up my empty car has taken up most of my time) and now I have work. I will definitely write it tomorrow though. (it is already half written, I promise)
Until then, here’s a picture of me in the new item!
In case anyone’s interested, this skirt is now available on Etsy right here
Till next time!
This weekend I ended up staying over at my boyfriends bosses house. He was having a ‘pyjama’ party with lots of games and alcohol and invited us both. (Quite a big thing for Ashley as not many people are usually invited over to his bosses house) The job seems to be going well for him at the moment and he’s improving a lot. He thinks he might have made nearly £300 last week (pretty big thing with it all being commission based), hopefully he can keep up this good streak and doesn’t get many cancellations. I have my fingers crossed that he can work his way up to management soon.
The night was really fun, I had lots of drunken girly chats and we played lots of fun games and became very tiddly. In the morning we woke up and all watched team america, a film that never fails to make me laugh. Then Ash and I wondered off to the delights of Brick lane for some lunch. We had some lovely curries and a nice little chat to the friendly people on the table next to us. Then we went to the nearby market hall, for ‘research’. They had some lovely stalls, but as I was there for research I didn’t allow myself to buy anything. I spotted some little earrings in a bargain bin that were just adorable! I really wanted them but just couldn’t justify buying them despite them being reduced and really not expensive at all. Luckily Ash noticed how much I wanted them and decided to buy them for me. I was so happy! Sure they didn’t cost much, but just the fact they were a present from him has made me really happy.
The rest of the day was spent giggling, visiting his parents and giggling some more. We haven’t had a giggle like that in ages and it was really nice to finally spend some time together (without being stressed out or ill).
Oh and I of course sent some flowers over for my mother on Mothers day. A big bouquet for being amazing and always supporting my sister and I when ever we’ve needed it. She’s really been a rock in this last week and I hope she realises how much I appreciate her. She definitely appreciated the flowers and claimed to have teared up a bit when she received them.
Until next time!
So right now i’m in Canterbury, mainly to help with my dissertation, but i made time for a bit of a wander around the sites.
I got up at about 7ish and went to ride on a train for about 3 hours. Then i finally got here and managed to get lost on my way to the B&B, but eventually, after a good hour or so wandering in the boiling heat, heavily laden with bags and in far too many layers, i found it. The first thing i did was use the free shampoo/conditioner and shower gel, then i stole some free tea and milk, and then some free wifi.
After a change of clothes i wandered up to the university and found the part of the library with all the Grotowski stuffs. I mainly looked at his production called The Constant Prince today, which happens to be the subject of my third chapter. I watched the video and Rhyszard Cieslak is a truly amazing actor. He was completely immersed into the role, i can definitely see why they toured it for so long. Even though it’s all in Polish, you didn’t need to understand the words to understand the anguish. I took lots of pictures and notes, then got thrown out at closing time. Will be going back for the day tomorrow 🙂
I decided at this point it was time to get food as my tummy had been rumbling for quite a while so i headed into town to get a chinese! Somehow it took me about 2 hours to actually get round to buying any food as i got a little bit distracted by culture…I found some pretty gardens and a nice river. Eventually i found the Canthedral, how i lost it in the first place i’ll never know, it’s not exactly small. I even found a nice little castle. But soon the hunger got the better of me so i went and got some chicken and sweetcorn soup (i wanted crab but they didnt have it:( ), chicken chow mein (wanted rice and something but have no monies 😦 ) and some pancakes (which were pretty much spring rolls, yum!) and then wandered back to the b&b to sneak them into my room and munch whilst resting my weary feet, watching TV and dossing on the internet.
It was at this point i realised my TV was set to B&W, i still haven’t figured out how to set it onto colour. It’s flat screen and quite new and shiny so i’m guessing it can handle colours…
Anyways, it’s back to the north tomorrow (after another day in the library), but for now have some pretty pictures! 🙂
Stay happy! 🙂
