Today I will be going to the UK Etsy meet up in London and decided I needed to make some special jewellery to wear for the occasion. I haven’t kept many of my handmade items for myself as I feel guilty when looking at the mounds of jewellery i already own.
But for christmas I was given some beads from my mum’s boyfriend that I was under strict instructions to use for myself, as I really should start wearing my own things. I mean if i’m not going to wear it why would anyone else?
Plus I feel this kind event really does need me to advertise my wares so i really needed to knuckle down and make some items.
The only problem was, i’ve been lacking inspiration for a long time and had no idea what to make. So, i decided to rummage through my jewellery box and came across an old necklace that i hadn’t worn for ages. This necklace sparked some ideas in my mind and I suddenly went on a productive streak managing to make 3 necklaces and 3 pairs of earrings in the space of a few hours!
Pink and Pearl Heart Necklace
Cute pink and cheerful, bit more girly than i’m used to, but I like it any way. It has a string of pearls broken up by pink and gold coloured beads and a large gold heart pendant.
Flower Dangle Earrings
Again cute and girly. These special flower beads seemed to suit the pearls beautifully to create a cute pair of earrings perfect for spring.
This necklace has actually been made to sell. A string of pearls separated by a cute fish bead. A fun and quirky necklace for those who like the unusual.
Blue Chain Earrings
An eye catching pair of earrings made to to make a statement.
I also made a pair of earrings for my sister’s birthday as the present i really made her was a big fail. I made them to match a dress she already owns. Unfortunately I do not have a picture of them for you. Maybe another time.
In other news, our flat now has pets!
They are completely self reliant in their own little ecosystem, they require no feeding, cleaning or any other pet related chores. The perfect animal for forgetful me!
I decided to do a bit of baking this week. It didn’t turn out the best ever (the mixture could have done with some more air in it), but i still made some tasty buns. They have chocolate philadelphia smeared on top which is every bit as good as i thought it would be!
On wednesday I started work at a Weatherspoons which is only 10 minutes away from my new flat (although a 45 minute drive for the moment).
I’m actually really enjoying it and have actually always had a fascination of being a barmaid for a while. When I was younger I used to always be the ‘waitress’ at family parties. I remember at a barbecue once (probably when I was still in primary school) my uncle had managed to get a proper beer pump and I spent hours pulling pints for everyone attending. I loved it and was getting pretty good by the end, despite my young age.
I also used to always help my next door neighbour with the food when ever he had bbqs, and even spent a whole night at theirs in an apron being a ‘waitress’ and handing out drinks for all the guests.
So obviously this is a job i have been destined to do for a while.
Yesterdays shift was quite easy. I spent the whole shift on the floor cleaning up plates and glasses and also getting the food orders to the patrons once they were cooked. It was relatively uneventful, other than a lovely old woman giving me a £2 tip which was very much appreciated!.
Todays shift was slightly more…chaotic.
I was learning the bar today, and there is quite a lot to learn so it was definitely a little bit harder. Everyone was nice and friendly though and seemed to understand it was one of my first days and had a nice joke around.
Until it came to one particular customer…
I was half way through serving a customer and an old man barked his order at me. I told him to hold on as I was serving someone else, finished the order and went back to the old man saying ‘Was it just one pint you wanted?’. At this point he started shouting at me (not even just a little bit of a raised voice, it was loud enough for the whole pub to hear) about how he was ‘not deaf’ and ‘didn’t mumble’. This shouting must have gone on for a full 10 minutes whilst i apologised and then went to pour his drink. At this point I was the only person on the bar as well so didn’t really know how to handle it all, but he shut up and sat down once he had his drink.
Later he came back to the bar and started making some very inappropriate comments suggesting a man at the end of the bar was listening to porn (why else would he have headphones in?!). He carried on making various rude comments, and then proclaiming it was ok to say these things as he was 90. Then he overstepped the mark completely by pointing to me and saying ‘I bet you’d take your top off for an extra £200 an hour’. At this point one of the managers, who was right beside me this time, started lecturing him about inappropriate behaviour and then went off to either talk to the other manager about him or calm down (possibly both). When she got back the old man had already left but she apologised to me for having such a bad customer on my second shift and assured me he was barred.
He really was quite strange, but you have to expect some…characters.
Work again tomorrow (from 9 till close), will probably be full of even more exciting moments with it being a Friday night!
Not really looking forward to driving home at 1am but at least we’re moving soon! As long as all the paper work goes through ok we should have the keys by next thursday!
Till next time!
I made a cute little spring treasury on Etsy and thought i’d share it on here with my reasons for picking each object. 🙂 You can find my treasury here.
I tried to look for pastel colours, flowers, and a bright cheerful feeling, all the things that just shout spring to me! There were so many cute items it was hard to narrow it down, but in the end this is what I came up with:
It’s kind of hard to believe these aren’t real. Who wouldn’t want these to brighten up their living room? They wont die like real flowers and can come in a range of colours to suit your room! Definitely a good choice if you always forget to water or buy new plants like me.
I love how unusual this bracelet is. The branch with the first hint of flower is adorable and reminds me of the trees just starting to blossom.
Want a big bright statement piece that makes winter vanish to memory? Then this is surely the necklace for you. Its bright, fun and cheerful and just makes me smile.
This necklace is cute and fresh, just what you need to chase away the cold british winter. The straw like string adds a touch of the unusual and the flowers add that cute feminine touch. All together a very adorable little necklace.
Spring is a time for new life, eggs are being laid and flowers are blossoming, so why not feel part of it by wearing some ‘eggs’ on your ears? Not only are these adorable, but I think they would go perfectly with the necklace above!
Well we’ve had the eggs so we obviously needed some birds as well! I love the twig and flowers at the top of this mobile and the birds finish it off beautifully. I can just see this in a little girls nursery, but to be honest i’d really want to steal this for myself. It is definitely one to enjoy no matter what your age is.
Want to look like a flowery meadow? Well then this is the necklace for you. Crammed full of cute little flowers this statement necklace is bound to turn heads and make any outfit look fantastic.
This is the kind of dress I can imagine wearing on a warm spring day/evening whilst prancing around a meadow. It’s just stunning. Maybe the weather isn’t quite warm enough for it yet, but it’s getting there. Although I’m not sure if i’d dare wear it out of the house myself for fear of ruining it!
It’s impossible not to think about snowdrops when spring is mentioned and these earrings seem to mimic them beautifully. Bring a touch of classy elegance to your outfit by wearing these, i’d personally wear them with my hair up just to make sure they’re noticed!
I don’t know what to really say about this dress other than just simply ‘Wow’. The delicate lace and pastel colours seem to compliment the freshness of spring and really does make me think of flower fairies dancing in the evening light.
From classic to just plain cute! Everyone loves deers and this necklace is just adorable!
Another animal that reminds me of spring is the little baby ducklings! If I could I’d buy lots of these little figurines and make a line of them that I could imagine were waddling towards a nice little picturesque pond.
Another statement necklace with some bold pink flowers and green beads. A modern, but some how classic, look to really attract the compliments.
Gold, Silver, Diamond. What more does a girl want? This delicate little ring would certainly draw in my attention and leave me completely green in envy! The vein detail on the flower really finishes this piece off and I can imagine I would spend hours tracing them with my eyes.
It may be listed as a wedding Item, but I would wear this despite not even being engaged yet. I love the messy vintage glamour this seems to exude. What better way to feel at one with nature than to be wearing this gorgeous piece.
Another statement necklace for the demure woman in you. A string of pearls with a bunch of flowers, a fresh addition to a smart outfit.
I hope you like these Items as much as I do, I had a lot of fun putting it together.
Till next time!
